TANIA FRAZER Director & Oboe
Born in Brisbane, Tania Frazer is recognized as one of Australia's leading artists, a world class solo oboist, artistic director and music arranger and is the Managing Director & Artistic Director of Collectivo. She is joint Artistic Director of the Waiheke Island Chamber Music Festival in New Zealand together with superstar violinist Amalia Hall. Tania completed both her undergraduate and postgraduate degrees at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London on full scholarship. Tania was a member of the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival Orchestra working closely with Lorin Maazel, Rostropovich, Bernstein, Solti and others. Tania has collaborated with artists such as Jessye Norman, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Barbara Hendricks, Evgeny Kissin, Ida Haendel, Sir Neville Marriner, Richard Tognetti, Teddy Tahu Rhodes, Dawn Upshaw, James Morrison, Slava Grigoryan and Avi Avital. At the age of 21, Tania was invited by Zubin Mehta to perform with the world-famous Israel Philharmonic Orchestra under his direction. Tania has since appeared on many occasions with The Israel Philharmonic Orchestra , The Royal Scottish National Orchestra, The Sydney Symphony Orchestra, the Stavanger Symphony in Norway and the Montreal Chamber Orchestra. Tania was principal oboe of The Australian Chamber Orchestra for five years and principal oboe of The Israel Opera for four years. A recipient of numerous prizes and awards, Tania won first prize at the Coleman International Competition in Los Angeles, the Queen Elizabeth Silver Jubilee Award in London, the Australian Foundation in London Award, the Philharmonia Orchestra’s Martin Award (UK) and is featured in the Who’s Who of Australian Women in recognition of her contribution to the arts. From 2011-2024 Tania was the Artistic Director of the Southern Cross Soloists in QLD and the Bangalow Music Festival in NSW. In 2024 Tania was awarded the Order of Australia Medal (OAM) on the Kings Birthday for her contribution to music and the arts. |
