CONCERT 1
"The Light Within"
"The Light Within"
The 2025 festival opens withThe Light Within: a captivating program featuring sublime melodies and brilliant virtuosity. Starting with Bach’s Concerto for Violin and Oboe which has one of the most beautiful slow movements ever written, the program also features French film composer Thibaut Vuillermet’s hauntingly beautiful Élégie for solo violin, performed by the incomparable Amalia Hall.
Rossini’s dazzling Introduction, Theme, and Variations follows with operatic flair and virtuosic brilliance, performed for the first time by the oboe, whilst Caccini’s timeless Ave Maria radiates expressiveness and luminosity. The program culminates with Mendelssohn’s vivacious String Quintet No. 2, Op. 87, in an exuberant celebration of life.

Take a journey through time, place, and tradition with Souvenirs, a program that captures the heart and soul of the world's people—from rustic folk songs to classical elegance, jazz brilliance, and spirited klezmer.
Opening with the wild and passionate Baroque variations of La Folia, the program unfolds with Golijov’s haunting How Slow the Wind and New Zealand composer Claire Cowan’s whimsical Scenes from Hansel and Gretel. Artie Shaw’s jazzy Concerto, performed on oboe, brings improvisational flair and vibrant energy, while Villa-Lobos’ Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5 blends timeless elegance with the pulse of Brazilian soul.
The program culminates in Tchaikovsky’s lush and expressive Souvenir de Florence and Feidman’s exuberant Klezmer Freilach, leaving audiences uplifted and inspired.
